Another "No Guns in Schools" op-ed

Op-ed by another clueless anti-gun editorial board, who wet their pants over the thought of armed teachers in Texas.
The teachers allowed to carry firearms would have to be licensed to carry concealed weapons, the district says. And the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, is all for it. He'd like to see weapons permitted in bars, churches and college campuses.

So why not arm the kindergarten teacher?

It's a foolish idea. Schools are for teaching, and teaching impressionable students that people must carry weapons to protect themselves in ordinary circumstances will not lead to a civilization in which guns aren't needed. There is a place for firearms — hunting, collections, target and other sports shooting, certain careers, et cetera — but school isn't on that list.

It's easy enough to get caught up in the emotion and anger that erupts in the wake of violence in our society. Especially the insidious, bloody and bullish acts of apparent random gunfire in our workplaces, schools, malls, restaurants or churches. The headlines are vivid. The photos are gut-wrenching. They make the most passive among us want to throttle the evil-doer.

But that's not how a civilized society works. We use widely available technology to provide alarm systems on our buildings, put cameras in the hallways and come up with protocol to monitor them all.

We reward good citizenship among our students and workforces.

We banish the disease of bullying. ...

Op-ed here. Good to know that we can "banish the disease of bullying", and presto!, no more bullying. Maybe we should just banish school shootings by mass-murderers. Oh, wait -- we already did. So utterly clueless.
