Obama's Cairo speech

A roundup of some commentary on The One's speech in Cairo, Egypt:

NY Post: Obama butters them up:
With his trademark humility, President Obama noted in his speech this morning that "change cannot happen overnight" and that one speech in Cairo -- even delivered by him -- will not bring about world peace.

Oh, snap!

But if world peace is attained by complimenting those on the other side into submission, he made some serious progress.

Obama really buttered them up in Cairo.

He thanked them for everything from algebra to the pen, though he curiously failed to mention that they often throw people in prison for using it.

He even went so far as to tell the audience that he considers "it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."

Wow. That won't be the last time you hear that line. ...

Confederate Yankee says [text of Obama's speech available at link]:
In a stirring address in Cairo, Egypt, a U.S. President confirmed that he saw the world as he would have it be, and not as it was.

In rhetoric that bared a broad range of thought, from empathy and denial, to wishful thinking and sophomoric ideological fantasy, Barack Obama alarmed allies and confirmed for the nation's enemies that he will do for democracy and the advancement of human rights what [Kansas abortion doctor] George Tiller did for pediatrics. ...

American Thinker: Obama conjures up Muslims:
The man who will conduct the next census are already putting out funny numbers. In his Cairo speech, the President claimed there are seven million Muslims in the US. This is a multiple of the Pew Research Center's careful estimate of 2.35 million.

Even if you accept the President's ridiculous claim, this does not make American one of the largest "Muslim nations" as he recently averred. ...

FNC's Greg Gutfeld at Big Hollywood:
... But don’t get me wrong: I’m really glad he now brings up the horrors of 9/11 and the Holocaust, two things that tend to send certain Arabs into delight, or denial. But saying his role as President would be in part to “fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear”…that seems a little much, don’t you think? Wouldn’t it be better if, in that sentence, “Islam” were replaced with “Americans?” I mean, America’s view of Islam may be negative (according to recent polls), but it doesn’t drive us to blow up stuff. And there never was a real “backlash,” was there? Negative stereotypes of America, however, result in blood-soaked craters and beheadings. ...

And Allahpundit's take over at Hotair:
It was lame, or lame-ish, but not for the reason she gives. She wanted more tough talk on Iran to galvanize Sunni antipathy to their nuke program, but in fairness to The One, that’s not what this was about. It was a kumbaya singalong with Muslims, Shia included, and there’s no place for ultimatums in a drum circle. What made it lame, apart from didactic Mr. Rogers-esque pap like, “It is easier to blame others than to look inward; to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share,” was how few concrete solutions it offered, opting instead for the usual “le Change, c’est moi” persona-as-policy Obama shtick. As Andrew Bolt put it, “Of actual proposals to solve anything he has few. He’s offering not plans but himself. He is the Healer.” ...
