So I guess the Dems aren't really all that "pro-choice", after all

That's Mistress Sarah to you, Left Wingers

Zombie over at Pajamas Media gives his take on the Left's obsession with Sarah Palin:
Why are liberals obsessed with Sarah Palin?

Because she is their dominatrix.

I posit that American liberal men are, as a group, masochists in search of a sadist. Sarah Palin at first walked into the dominant role completely unwittingly, but once she grasped the erotic control she wielded over her opponents, she became not quite as unwitting about it as some may think.

Sexual kinks are a peculiar thing: they often make no logical sense to an outsider who does not share the fetish. How can liberals denounce Sarah Palin as a Nazi and a bitch and an idiot yet simultaneously harbor a masturbatory fascination with her?

Obama Justice Department: Blacks need Democratic Party

From the Washington Times:
KINSTON, N.C. | Voters in this small city decided overwhelmingly last year to do away with the party affiliation of candidates in local elections, but the Obama administration recently overruled the electorate and decided that equal rights for black voters cannot be achieved without the Democratic Party.

The Justice Department's ruling, which affects races for City Council and mayor, went so far as to say partisan elections are needed so that black voters can elect their "candidates of choice" - identified by the department as those who are Democrats and almost exclusively black.

The department ruled that white voters in Kinston will vote for blacks only if they are Democrats and that therefore the city cannot get rid of party affiliations for local elections because that would violate black voters' right to elect the candidates they want.
[emphasis added]

Several federal and local politicians would like the city to challenge the decision in court. They say voter apathy is the largest barrier to black voters' election of candidates they prefer and that the Justice Department has gone too far in trying to influence election results here.

Stephen LaRoque, a former Republican state lawmaker who led the drive to end partisan local elections, called the Justice Department's decision "racial as well as partisan."

"On top of that, you have an unelected bureaucrat in Washington, D.C., overturning a valid election," he said. "That is un-American."

The decision, made by the same Justice official who ordered the dismissal of a voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party in Philadelphia, has irritated other locals as well. They bristle at federal interference in this city of nearly 23,000 people, two-thirds of whom are black.

In interviews in sleepy downtown Kinston - a place best known as a road sign on the way to the Carolina beaches - residents said partisan voting is largely unimportant because people are personally acquainted with their elected officials and are familiar with their views. ...

Read the rest of this sordid story here. So much for the colorblind society. Or the will of the people, for that matter. Remember, the voters in that small North Carolina town, two-thirds of whom are black, voted overwhelmingly to get rid of partisan identifiers on the ballot. And according to the article, only nine of the state's 551 towns and cities hold partisan elections. So it's not like Kinston would be breaking new ground here; indeed, the town would have joined the vast majority of towns in its state in the way it holds elections.

Thirteen of top 15 most dangerous cities led by Democrats

... and one Independent who supported Obama. From the American Thinker, commenting on a Forbes Magazine list of America's most dangerous cities:
When Mayor Giuliani, the feisty Italian-American Republican took charge of New York, he meant business. Crime went down, down, down.

Alas, today's big city mayor is more likely to be a soft-on-crime Democrat.

What do I mean? When Forbes magazine listed the 15 most dangerous cities in America - the political class ignored one embarrassingly obvious fact. Yes: 14 of the 15 mayors leading America's most dangerous cities are Obama-first leaders. ...

See the list here, or read the Forbes article here. A remarkable coincidence, no? OK, maybe not so remarkable. Many of these politicians are often the same ones pushing to disarm the peaceable, law-abiding citizens of their cities.

The new math ...

Barack Obama has said his latest tax plan (dubbed Obama Tax 3.0 by the Wall Street Journal) will result in a "tax cut" for 95% of Americans (even the 40% who pay no taxes today).

Tonight, the Democrats show us the kind of math prowess needed to achieve those numbers:

:)

Obama will also raise taxes on "the wealthy", i.e., those that pay the vast majority of the taxes in this country. Of course, the past 60 years of data shows us that when that happens, gross domestic product will go down and -- surprise! -- the economy will suffer.

Gun owners stock up ahead of election

From the Lone Star State:
Gun sales are going boom around the country as gun owners and gun advocates brace for a potential Democrat in the White House for the first time in almost 10 years.

Democrats, meanwhile, say there's no reason to worry that presidential hopeful Barack Obama would attempt to curtail access to most guns, though that hasn't stopped the buying spree.

"You'd be surprised," said Jeff Mercer, manager of George's Pawn and Gun Shop on High Street. "It's people of all races, too. People are scared."

Across town at The Gun Doctor and More on Glencrest Lane, owner Bob Godell said he has also noticed a similar trend.

"We call it the Obama factor. People are very concerned that if a Democrat is elected they will see more restrictions on handguns and assault rifles." Godell said. "I think as a result of that we have seen steady handgun sales, and there's been an increase in the sale of assault rifles like AK-47s, as well."

Article here. I think it's fair to say that under a democrat administration, with a democrat-controlled Congress, we'll be looking at the real possibility of sweeping gun-control legislation passing.

Apparently, Not the Flags of Their Fathers

From the Denver Post, comes this story:
This morning, Republicans tell me that a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

(Flags allegedly recovered from DNC Convention that were headed for garbage. Photo: Denver Post)

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story. ...

Read the whole post here, which has several updates, including responses from the Democrats. If the story is accurate that the flags were headed for the trash, it seems both disrespectful of the flag, and wasteful.

Perhaps someone should direct the Obama campaign to the VFW's pages on the U.S. Flag Code and Flag etiquette. Heck, why not just donate the flags to the local VFW or American Legion post?

List of prohibited items for dems at Obama speech

According to the official Democratic Convention website, tonight's historic acceptance speech by Barack Obama of his party's presidential nomination will be a tightly controlled event:
Convention organizers also released a list of items that will be restricted on-site for Thursday’s program at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Those attending are advised that the list of items not allowed on-site includes but is not limited to:
  • Outside food and beverage of any kind, including alcoholic beverages, coolers and bottled water
  • Umbrellas (in case of inclement weather, the public is encouraged to bring raincoats or ponchos)
  • Large bags, suitcases or backpacks
  • Noisemakers, air horns, whistles, cowbells, horns, bull horns or other voice enhancement devices.
  • Signs, banners, flags or any other items that would either obstruct the view of a patron or serve as a security risk
  • Any and all unauthorized merchandise, including unapproved pamphlets, handouts, advertisements, etc.
  • Knives of any size, razor blades or sharp and/or pointed objects like scissors, knitting needles, etc.
  • Mace/pepper spray or aerosol containers
  • Fireworks
  • Weapons of any kind, including toy weapons, or any article that might be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety as well as canes, chains, sticks of any length (non-medical use canes
  • Screwdrivers or Leatherman brand or similar tools
  • Dangerous or hazardous items or materials including chemical, biological, radiological, etc.
  • Animals (except service dogs & guide dogs)
  • Folding chairs
  • Laser devices
  • Tripods
  • Bikes, inline skates, skateboards, scooters, shoes with wheels
  • Illegal drugs and any other illegal substances
  • Frisbees or inflated balls of any kind

INVESCO Field at Mile High policy for this event prohibits strollers or baby seats from being taken into the stands or left in section entrances.

The camera policy is as follows: Cameras with lenses less than 75mm and small hand-held video cameras are permitted, provided they do not obstruct the view of other attendees. Professional cameras or any other audio/video recording equipment are not allowed to be brought in to the stadium unless the user has the appropriate Convention press credential.

While some of these might make sense, no outside food or water, for a seven hour wait? I guess it's only government-approved food and water for the Obamaites. Sounds a lot like an internment camp, if you ask me.

So basically, participants will be herded allowed to enter the open-air stadium at 1 PM, with no food or water, to hear His Majesty Senator Obama's speech, which begins at 8 PM (all times Mountain Time). Perhaps the organizers hope this will be an opportunity for Obama to work his miracle of the bread and fishes to feed the hungry masses on live national TV. Just leave your cowbell at home.
