From not unattractive to plastic in 5 easy steps. Bleurgh.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg.
Are photos retouched because our perspective of beauty distorted, or is our perception of beauty distorted because photos are retouched?
If photographers suddenly started retouching photos to make model's noses bigger and crooked with a big hairy wart on the end, would the fad followers of society start getting plastic surgery to get witch noses?
I think they're imagining that the photographers have much more power than they do. The retouchers don't determine what is "perfect" in terms of beauty, they can only retouch the photos to match what that perception already is.
FWIW, I don't think the physique of an Auschwitz escapee with fake boobs, a plastic smile, glued-on eyelashes and a quarter inch of crap smeared on the face is attractive at all.
But, then again, women don't do what they do to impress men. They do what they do to compete with other women.
